IMPOTENCE
CAUSES OF IMPOTENCE
Impotence or erectile dysfunction is a serious medical condition that affects almost all men at certain points of their lives and manifests itself through the inability to obtain or maintain an erection hard enough for having satisfying sexual activity. But simply having trouble with erection from time to time is not erectile dysfunction. Things like this happen to all men and should not be worried about. However, if it's a regular experience and you have erection problems in more than 1 of 4 times you try to have sex, then you should speak to your doctor about your options. Male impotence can be treated in a variety of ways and each treatment depends on what is the cause of erectile dysfunction in every particular case.
Erectile dysfunction can be caused by two separate types of conditions: psychological and physiological. Psychological causes for erectile dysfunction are quite diverse, as a whole set of emotional and psychological conditions may lead to erectile dysfunction. It can be depression, stress, anxiety, phobia, relationship problems or more serious conditions like schizophrenia that are affecting your ability to get a good erection. As they say, the sexiest part of a man's body is the brain and when there's something wrong in the command center the body won't respond as it should. In cases where impotence is caused by psychological issues the treatment consists of eliminating these factors through practices such as group or individual therapy, relaxation, anti-stress programs and so on. Sometimes it is just enough to talk to the person and the problem goes away.
Physiological problems for erectile dysfunction are much more diverse and aren't dealt with so easily. Impotence can be caused by certain medical conditions such as blood pressure problems, high cholesterol levels, diabetes, heart problems, hormone level issues, penis deformation and many others. Erection itself strongly depends on the blood flow into the penis upon sexual arousal and any condition that will affect normal blood circulation is likely to cause erectile dysfunction. Eliminating the above mentioned elements may help you improve the quality of your erection, but if the problem was around for a really long time it is likely that the treatment will be quite hard and prolonged.
Impotence can also be caused by the drugs you use or medical procedures you undergo. Certain antidepressants and cold treatments are known to cause temporary erectile dysfunction that usually wears off after you've completed the course of the drug. Men also report having troubles with erection after going through treatments of certain types of cancer. If you suspect such things to be the cause of ED, you should discuss it with your doctor. |
